Read an interesting article on one of my favourite companies..
Check it out here http://harvardbusinessonline.hbsp.harvard.edu/hbsp/hbr/articles/article.jsp;jsessionid=ZBFECWGYVOXCMAKRGWDR5VQBKE0YIISW?ml_action=get-article&articleID=R0804C&ml_page=1&ml_subscriber=true
My love affair with Google started when I was doing my MBA.. that's one course you couldn't survive without Google providing you all the info in the world in one click! Professors expecting world class assignments overnight... ok.. six professors excepting seven world class assignments overnight:) In situations of such despair, you turn to Google. And learn the best way to help you search through it!
Then I started working.. and pop came an Ad that they were recruiting for HR.. we scrambled.. we wished.. we prayed... and we assembled in a very long line one fine morning in front of the Google Hyderabad Office, all vying for the coveted position..
I loved every moment of the recruitment process.. the fact that it had written, group discussion and numerous rounds of interviews.. the fact that when the HR Lady came to talk to us, we all wished we were her.. the fact that they offered the yummiest office meal to all of us who got through the first three rounds just coz it was afternoon and we had to wait for the interview process.. the amazingly relaxing looking massage chair in the cafeteria which offered all possible types of drinks n goodies.
Well, in case you are wondering why I didnt get the job(else I wouldnt be writing this post, would I?), the post advertised was temporary, and I was already doing a permanent job. The HR Lady politely took me aside and told me that even though they liked me it wouldnt be intelligent for me to take a temporary job when I was already holding a permanent one. I couldnt agree more!
But that hasnt stopped Google from being my dream company. I still stop and read when I see Google mentioned in news, wondering what it has been up to now.
I think lot of companies could take a leaf out of its book as to how intelligent beings are supposed to be treated.. Its going to be interesting watching how it continues to retain its employees as it grows.
