So Why Is HR Important Again?

Welcome to my first post! The purpose of this blog is for me to voice out my feelings about what I feel about HR.. the good, the bad, the evil.. and the much talked about!

Well.. let me start with why I think it is important.. for starters, coz I am interested in it:) Ok kidding.. Well.. I believe that HR is important because even though the name changed from 'personnel' to 'human resources', people still treat 'humans' they employ as 'resources'.
The thing is.. well.. people are not just resources!!

However much we try to calculate the 'cost- and - benefit' of it.. it is still different from your computers, tables and chairs! They are 'people'.. with lives.. families, home, emotions, aspirations.. and with growing scarcity of talent in the market, they are more than eager to assert their importance. They eat, drink, exercise(atleast..they ought to!), sleep, get stressed.. (in case you are wondering how this matters to your business sweetie.. take a look at the cost of lost business days because your employees took more than usual sick leaves last year!)

And we as HR professionals have to take more care of them.. tangible care. Not just jargon saying that we believe that people are the power behind our business, and that we have the best career prospects for them, but actually start doing what we say. Feel concerned when an employee comes up and says that he feels his career is going nowhere. He may not be sleeping too well, and might be developing early signs of blood pressure.

Imagine if we could just place all the people in the jobs they loved doing and it could all fit in like a jigsaw puzzle.. Imagine the happiness quotient in the world..Utopian?? Doesnt kill to try does it?
